Troglodyte Cloister emerged the moment Martin Cooney split a block of Colorado Yule Marble—releasing internal stresses and immediately revealing a form that felt nearly complete. That initial break produced the raw, textured exterior you see today and set the stage for one of the final works in the Autumn of ’14 Collection.
Delicate, cloister-like windows appeared as Cooney carved deeper, unveiling layers of luminous stone hidden within. The piece was directly inspired by a serendipitous detour to Portovenere, Italy, where three distinctive windows left a lasting impression. That architectural memory now lives on in marble, evoking the quiet mystery and elegance of Tuscany’s ancient stonework.
Troglodyte Cloister is a meditation on light, structure, and memory—compact yet filled with spaciousness and spirit.
