Titanic is the 24th sculpture in Martin Cooney’s Maiden Collection, carved from a flawless band of pure white Colorado Yule Marble that ran the length of a massive ten-ton slab. After completing 23 sculptures from the same block, Cooney approached this piece with both confidence and ambition—setting out to carve a bowl so fine and thin it would border on translucence.
The sculpture draws on Cooney’s lifelong connection to the sea, a theme deeply rooted in his English upbringing where no part of the country lies more than 50 miles from the coast. As the artist says, “boats are in me blood,” and that sentiment is fully realized in the clean, nautical curves of Titanic.
Strikingly responsive to light, Titanic is designed to glow in any setting.
