Description
I’ve always been fascinated by the way water moves over stone—whether in nature, like a riverbed, or across the surface of a sculpture. Elefountain was born from that fascination, and like Bird Mountain Fountain, the challenge was to keep the water flowing smoothly without splashing or breaking the calm. By carefully balancing the tension in the film of water, I was able to guide it gracefully across the elephant’s face and trunk—creating a soothing, continuous sheet of motion.
Elefountain is powered by two pumps—one circulating water gently over the elephant’s face and trunk, and another supplying a playful spout, mimicking the way elephants famously spray water. The result is a dual-flow system that creates a refreshing splish-splashing sound—soft enough for indoor spaces, yet strong enough to mask ambient urban noise. Each flow can be fine-tuned to your liking, offering a dynamic and customizable water feature.
Though it may appear carved fully “in the round,” the elephant is sculpted in deep bas-relief—a traditional technique used here to create surprising depth and three-dimensionality, even when viewed from the side.
The inspiration came from a real elephant I once watched cheekily squirting water at tourists—an unforgettable moment that sparked the idea to bring that personality and playfulness into stone.
And yes—children absolutely love this fountain.
