Inspired by the traditional riverboats that glide along the Nile, Felucca is a compact yet commanding marble sculpture carved from Colorado Yule Marble. Martin Cooney shaped this piece using his signature reductionist approach, allowing the form to emerge naturally as excess material was carefully removed.
With a low center of gravity and sweeping lines, Felucca evokes both stability and motion—qualities that define the historic sailing vessels from which it draws its name. A distinct reddish-orange marking in the marble adds a visual focal point, reminiscent of a setting sun glowing on the water’s surface.
Elegant, grounded, and symbolic, Felucca embodies Cooney’s ability to blend sculptural precision with narrative depth.
