Description
Colorado Yule Marble – Autumn of 14 Collection
Dimensions: 11.5 x 5 x 22 ”
Weight: 38.8 lbs
The brighter half of Martin Cooney’s Cosmic Twins, Girl in the Moon embodies joy, lightness, and curiosity. Alongside her counterpart Salt of the Earth, this sculpture was carved from a single rectangular block of Colorado Yule Marble, perfectly split along a diagonal seam to form twin canvases.
Where her sibling represents grounded protection, Girl in the Moon—or “Moongirl”—radiates a buoyant, spirited presence. Inspired by African masks and the expressive styles of Picasso, she was shaped with care and precision, her features emerging from delicately thin marble. The process is unforgiving at this scale—one wrong move and the stone could fracture—yet the result is a luminous and confident figure that glows from within when lit from behind.
Full of personality and intimately scaled, Girl in the Moon is ideal for settings that invite reflection and imagination—a sculpture as enchanting as moonlight itself.
