Carved in the late summer of 2014, Ice Boat was born from the lingering vision of sleek Mediterranean sailboats following Martin Cooney’s return from Italy. Sculpted from a crisp, translucent sliver of Colorado Yule Marble, the piece was designed to channel and reflect light, turning its smooth, sail-like planes into radiant beacons.
A vertical divide between the “sails” creates a soft interplay of light and shadow—offering a quiet sense of movement and elegance. At the base, a small recessed bowl adds a functional touch, ideal for cradling delicate items or simply enhancing the sculpture’s balanced composition.
