Description
Colorado Yule Marble – 1314 Winter Collection
Dimensions: 32 x 12 x 7 ”
Weight: 40 lbs
A strikingly symmetrical piece within the 1314 Winter Collection, Lemonworld stands apart for its deliberate design and sculptural precision. Carved from a dense, high-quality block of Colorado Yule Marble, the piece features two gently tapered ends that mirror each other—evoking the clean, curved form of a lemon and inspiring its name.
Unlike many of Martin Cooney’s more intuitive, form-following works, Lemonworld represents a conscious imposition of geometry onto the stone. This bold approach was reinforced by the block’s exceptional strength, which allowed for the pointed terminations without compromise to durability.
The name took hold during the carving process as the artist repeatedly listened to “Lemonworld” by The National—its tone and rhythm matching the sculpture’s quiet intensity and introspective balance.
Elegant, minimal, and enduring, Lemonworld offers a rare instance of symmetry in Cooney’s hand-carved marble oeuvre.
